Lauri Svedberg of Minneapolis, who lives alone with her pup, is a lover of the great outdoors and expressing herself through her art. She has worked for 35 years to transform her seemingly ordinary house into an incredibly detailed wonderland that looks like it’s straight from a fairytale. The house is now for sale.
It’s early on a Friday night, somewhere around 10:30, maybe even 11:00. The gang’s all here, the vibes are grand, drinks are being drunk, and smokes are being lit. All is right in the world, how could this ever get any better?
And then you see her.
She goes by “Molly,” and my, oh my, you’ve never quite seen a lady as beautiful as she is. Absolutely stunning. Gorgeous white skin that’s been kissed by the sun, giving her a glimmer of tan pigmentation. She’s caught your eye, and you can’t pry them away. You want to meet her, you want to get to know her, Goddamn, you want to fuck her.You want her to be a part of your life, just something about her…
And then it begins with a kiss.
A quick, simple kiss. Wowza. The initial rush of her meeting with your tongue leaves you elated, and yet, as suddenly as that burst of ecstasy arrived, you are left disappointed. The woman is no where to be seen, and you are left wanting more. You shamble off to join the rest of your friends, maybe light up a cigarette and shoot the shit for thirty minutes or so.
And then you feel someone tap you on the back of your neck.
It’s her. She’s back. Perhaps there was more to that simple kiss than either you had thought. The gentle touch she left on your skin sends a shiver down your spine, goosebumps rise down the length of your arms. Suddenly, you’re enveloped in her warm, sweet embrace, nothing like anything you’ve felt before. You feel a weight lift from your shoulders, you’re quick on your feet. Every single cloudy thought that inhabits the dark depths of your brain is cast away by a squall of clairvoyance. Words, emotions, thoughts come to you easier than ever before. How have you lived without her? Does she make everyone feel this way?
They say that when you’re in love, you will sweat, your heartbeat might pick up in pace, your pupils will dilate to massive sizes, and you will suddenly begin smiling for no damn reason at all.
I find it no coincidence that that wonderful mistress named Molly has the same effect on us.
Whittier, Alaska, is a town of about 200 people, almost all of whom live in a 14-story former Army barracks built in 1956. The building, called Begich Towers, holds a police station, a health clinic, a church, and a laundromat. Its hallways resemble those of a school . One can often find residents shuffling around in slippers and pajamas.
Because the winters are so ferocious, the town’s only playground is indoors.
